Words from the President – Dorin Ranee

Selamat Datang!

Welcome to the website of the Auckland Malaysian Society. The Auckland Malaysian Society Inc was established in August 1991 by a group of individuals to foster solidarity, goodwill and maintain the cultural diversity, which Malaysia offers from its mixed ethnic people.

It is my pleasure to serve you as President for the year 2011/2012. My vision is to ‘Connect & Collaborate’. I would love to see more Malaysians connect and collaborate for the greater benefit. If you are not a member yet, now is a good time to sign up online and get connected. You would not want to miss out on our activities this year!

Our membership has grown over the past year and we would love to see that number continue to grow. We have monthly gatherings involving good food, fellowship and inspiring speakers. This year we are doing away with formal events and will focus on getting to know one another and sharing delicious home cooked dishes even at our festive celebrations like Hari Raya, Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year. It is our hope that more families can participate as we build a stronger community amongst Malaysian in Auckland.

We also aim to be an association that supports and assists Malaysian migrants. We are in the midst of putting a panel of experts together to assist in matters regarding immigration, education and finance.  We also work closely with the Malaysian students associations as well as the Malaysian business council. We will also launch our membership card for all members as we affiliate with Malaysian businesses and restaurants to provide discount to our members. This will also help promote these businesses. It is a collaboration that will bring much benefit to everyone.

Our big hairy audacious goal for the year is to organize a 2-days Malaysian tradeshow in June 2012 – ‘Warna Malaysia’ showcasing Malaysia’s finest in businesses, arts, crafts and food! We are in the midst of planning it and we need all the support we can get from Malaysians out there. If you would like to be part of this, please get in touch with me.
