The Auckland Malaysian Society Inc was established in August 1991 by a group of concerned individuals to foster solidarity, goodwill and maintain the cultural diversity, which Malaysia offers from its mixed ethnic people. It was also set up to assist and assimilate new Malaysian migrants into the New Zealand culture. We have contributed to various charities in New Zealand as part of our contribution to the New Zealand society. Our members are predominantly Malaysians but we do have a number of non-Malaysian members as well. We celebrate the main festivals of Chinese New Year, Deepavali (Indian), Hari Raya (Muslim), Christmas (Christian) and Merdeka Day (Independence Day).

Words from the President

Salam sejahtera and greetings to everyone.

I would like to thank all the members who attended the recent AGM and exercised their democratic right to vote and elect the new team to administer the AMS for the 2008-2009 financial year. I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to lead AMS for the next 12 months. The new committee and I would like to thank the outgoing President Radha Nadarajah and his team for their superb contribution to the Society up till now. My role as President will of course be to ensure that the Society progresses to increase its public profile and also to initiate a membership drive and come up with ideas with the assistance of the Committee for new events and activities. I would appreciate if the existing AMS members could encourage their acquaintances and friends who are Malaysians to join the organization or contact any of the Committee to discuss if they wish to discuss their membership.

Sandran Balan
President
July 2008
